Power-flushing is a great way of making sure your Central heating system is clean, efficient and long lasting. Many central heating systems suffer from the effects of what is commonly known as ‘sludge’, or as other people know it, magnetite or black iron oxide. In time, sludge builds up in your central heating system, and deposits eventually build up in pipework, valves, your boiler and most notoriously, your radiators.
Radiators which suffer from sludge, are typically cold at the bottom, and some only ever get luke-warm. The black iron oxide deposits build up and therefore prevents your hot central heating water from reaching all areas of your radiators.
It is important to act quickly when your system begins to develop black iron oxide, as it does not cure its self, and it can quickly spread around your system.
Our power-flushing service is very thorough. Smaller systems of 4 to 5 radiators can be flushed in half a day, but for larger systems, we allow a whole day. Power-flushes can’t be rushed, as it is vital to make sure the system is clear of all traces of sludge.
Symptoms of a ‘sludged up’ system:
- Poor heat output of your radiators.
- Noise in your central heating system.
- Black water in your header tank and when bleeding radiators.
- Constant need to bleed radiators.
- Cold spots on your radiators.
Reasons to have your system flushed:
- It can restore circulation and flow rates around your central heating system.
- It improves the heat outputs of your radiators.
- It reduces system noise.
- It can help save you money on your fuel bill.
Dont let sludge affect the performance of your central heating system.
